McDonald’s French Fries

McDonald's Fries - Ad

McDonald's Fries

Looks: Exactly like the ad. (As you can tell, this does not make for interesting reading.) 5 out of 5

Taste: Like mealy sticks of depression. If you don’t eat McDonald’s fries within 30 seconds of them exiting the fryer, you will quickly begin asking yourself “Why are they so hard? Why don’t they have a taste? Why did I even buy them? Why can’t I stop eating them?” They did earn 1 point for the salt I was able to lick from the bottom of the carton. 1 out of 5

To “Anonymous” who mentioned the “beef tallow”- this, 2009, is not anytime before 1990. McDonald’s switched from beef tallow to pure vegetable oil in 1990.

Anyway, I can honestly say that this site is one of the few things I look forward to checking out at the end of the day when I’m free. It’s what caused me to get into the frozen foods scene more often when I buy groceries, to try something new. Besides frozen foods, there are the other things that you’ve reviewed that I can thank you for.

Although I’ve tried McDonald’s fries before, I thank you for this review as well. It puts into perspective what I feel about them. I do disagree on the taste rating- I would give it a 2 or a 2.5 out of 5.

lol are you all serious or are you all just mcdonalds employees paid to say this on a website? i agree i don’t know why i wanna keep eating them, why they are addictive etc.. but they aren’t good. they’re soaked in preservatives and beef tallow, then frozen, then taken to mcdonalds, cooked in oil and salted too much. once they get cold, that’s it.. if you reheat them it’s not the same. the weirdest part is, they don’t mold. they get hard and cave in, but stay that way forever. they don’t mold and get dark.. no bacteria wants to eat them. isn’t that a sign? btw.. beef tallow is a paste made from a cow’s eyeballs.

That’s true, but I’ve never eaten a fry that was good when t was cold…

I did a comparison of the breakfast sub from Subway here: http://foodirl.com/post/subway-bacon-and-egg-breakfast-sub/

I think the main problem with these fries was that they were cold when I got them, making them gritty and hard, not crispy and fresh.

Wow, you had me until this one. McDonald’s fries are the best. In fact, McDonald’s has always impressed me – what I usually receive looks exactly as advertised. I think it has to do with the training they get. It’s a pet peeve of mine to see the slop that most most fast places serve up. In fact, if you’ve never done a “real life” comparison of Subway, you should. Or I guess I could…

are you kidding me? McDonald’s french fries are like heaven on earth… or at least like some high grade crack.

I love the french fries–I just don’t eat them because they’re unhealthy. But they’re crispy, fresh, and salty–just the way fries should be. I think sometimes you act a bit snobby about the food you rate here. It’s cheap food, it’s not pretending to be $7.99 thick-cut steak fries cooked in duck fat seasoned with basil and served on top of veal. It’s 1.99 french fries. At McDonald’s. That’s all.

one out of five? You nuts?!?

    McDonald’s has great fries!

I dislike almost everything else about the company, but credit should be given where credit is due – I don’t know anywhere else where you can get such a consistently prepared, and good french fry.

I remember reading somewhere about the greatness of McDonald’s and Wendy’s french fries:

Way off base here — McD’s fries are plenty tasty!

I agree, I hate Mc Donalds french fries

I disagree. The ad has no visible salt, while the photo below is full of salt crystals. I always order my fast food french fries without salt, but as it were…this doesn’t look like the ad due to the large mounds of salt.

Mcdonalds fries are also the least tasty of all the fast food fries out there…they should do something about that.

Mcdonald’s fries are the best fast food fries out there, in my opinion.

  15. Shadewolfe says:

If McFries are so great, why are they always somewhere between luke-warm and too-cold-to-eat within 10 minutes of them being served?

  16. Caleb says:

Wtf? You preppy ass prick. McDonalds fries are better than your life will ever be.

  17. Theo says:

Yeah, I can agree with you. Actually, it’s not just Mcdonalds. It’s Wendy’s, Burger King, and many fast food restaurants. They only care about the speed. Not the quality. See why your doctor wants you to avoid fast food? Because they don’t give a fuckin’ damn about your health, wellbeing or even the TASTE. They only care about the SPEED. And yes, the PR.
