McDonald's Bacon and Cheese Angus Third-Pounder

Looks: I apologize for the unflattering angle of this picture; I know I took several better ones, but somehow, they got lost in the shuffle of having a full memory card and wanting to take pictures of babies in Halloween costumes. Anyhow, the burger that I was served look as if they took the burger from the ad and let it sit out for a few days. The patty was dark and dry, nowhere near as thick as the advertised patty. (On the inside, it was so dry it was almost white and reminded me more of an overcooked porkchop than ground beef.) I only got one piece of cheese, and the vegetable toppings were scant, to say the least. 2 out of 5

Taste: The bun was the only ok thing about this burger. The meat was dry: on a scale from 1 to 10, it was a desert. The bacon tasted fake, and there weren’t enough vegetables or cheese to add moisture to the piece of cardboard masquerading as a ground beef patty. 1 out of 5

Has anyone tried the other Angus burgers? Do they fare any better than this one?

Pitiful. I did try it when it first came out. I had a slightly better experience than you but mine was overly salty…so much so that I couldn’t even finish it. The Big Mac is the Big Mac for a reason and aside from French fries and breakfast sandwiches (Egg McMuffin & McGriddles) and the only things that should ever be purchased at McDs…okay maybe a Shamrock Shake or McFlurry 🙂

I tried the same one you did and they left off the cheese. And I was going through the drive-thru so I didn’t notice until I got home. Ugh.

Not a great dining experience. Salty.

The Mushroom Swiss Angus third pounder was marginally better, but still only a 2 or 2.5. Don’t waste your money!

P.S. Cute baby in a pumpkin photo!

Every time I eat even a cheese burger from McDonalds, it kicks my heart into overdrive and I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack. I hardly ever eat meat or that much salt…

    I love your site btw!

I have a problem with the entire premium burger offerings from fast food restaurants.

You can get away with cooking a think patty well done, but you can’t make a juicy delicious hamburger out of well done thick patty.

I tried the Angus Burgers when they first came out – tried all 3 – and they were all OK (at best).

Until McDonald’s (or their competition) start using fresh beef cooked to order and cooked to temperature they will never make a great hamburger.

Just had In-N-Out for lunch yesterday – so good!

My husband has ordered this several times, at a couple of different McD’s, and fortunately he has had a better experience. He tolerates McD’s, but doesn’t love it, and he really likes this burger a lot.

I’ll say that the angus burgers they make at the mcdonalds I go to are slightly better than the one you had, but thats nothing to get excited about.

i tried the same burger about a month after they came out. i really enjoyed it and i am sad that you didn’t have the same experience as i did. maybe try another mc donalds at a different time, the people working could of not really cared so they gave you a terrible burger.

But was this crappy burger worth the 2 animals that died to make it (1 cow and 1 pig)? Or considering how bad it was, would it be better that they had lived to see another day? 🙂

I recommend the Bacon Deluxe at Wendy’s instead. Mmm applewood bacon…

I tried the angus burger a while back and found that it was indeed one of the most bland items on the McDonald’s menu. For the price you would be better off getting a couple regular cheeseburgers. At least then you don’t have to gnaw through a quarter-inch of pre-frozen/two hour in a steam pan old beef patty.

The ad picture is misleading … when they do these shoots (for burgers in this case), the meat is very lightly cooked – it will be cold and raw in the middle – this gives plumpness to it. Also the illusion of a stacked out burger is achieved by cutting the patty in half and resting the front half on top of the back half. This gives the look they are after and in fact, due to someone messing up a bit with this ad, you can actually see where the patty is cut on the right side.

My husband tried the Angus burger and said it was dry and not very good. The man will eat anything so for him to say it was bad, it must be really bad.

The mushroom and swiss is much better. It’s the only good to come out of the Angus burgers. The other two are boring.

I’ve tried the Bacon one at my local CT. McD’s. I thought it was better than their normal burgers. I think that if I can’t get to a BK on a road trip I’d get it. It was pretty tasty and I also had a coupon.

mcdonalds is always changing the meat patties in order to cut corners while increasing prices, this has another negative problem of cook times, what worked yesterday will burn the food today.

The Angus burger at Harvey’s is by far the best fast food Angus burger I’ve ever had (I specify Angus burger because although it is really good, it is not the best burger I’ve ever had, that goes to the local place that hand-makes their burgers). If you ever get up to Canada, you should give it a try 🙂

I’ve tried one once or twice. My problem is that they come SWIMMING in mayo, which i suppose could be considered lubricant to try and get the meat down the throat.
I miss the angus burgers from Burger King…

I’ve had this one three times. The first was great, not too oily/dry with the right amount of other ingredients. The second one had too much mayo and was less good. The third was dripping in oil and was completely inedible. I recommended it to my burger loving friends, they weren’t as lucky as i was the first time.

see, the whole ‘angus’ burger is all a marketing scheme, as is most of the fast- and packaged foods we eat today. just because something is labeled “angus” or “black angus” doesn’t mean it’s the same quality as “certified angus beef.” angus beef is further differentiated by USDA grades such as “prime,” “choice,” and “select,” giving us such labels as “certified angus prime,” indicating the best certified angus beef. that being said, there are eight grades of meat by the USDA: prime, choice, select, standard and commercial, and utility, cutter, and canner. the last three are rarely sold at retail, but used in ground beef and processed products. can you guess which grade mcdonald’s angus burgers are at? i guarantee if you go to a butcher or even a local supermarket and purchase a cut of angus beef, and cook it properly, unlike mcdonalds, you will be happily surprised.
