Looks: This walleye must have been the Yao Ming of walleyes, because it's about 100% longer than the filet featured in their ad. (Not that I'm complaining.) It reminds me of the hobos in cartoons that are wearing shoes that are five sizes too small, so their feet split out the end of the shoes and they wear the shoes more like sandals. Do you know what I mean? The shoe in this case is the bun, and the hobo foot is the fish. 2.5 out of 5

Taste: I'm not sure that Culver's can make a non-delicious food. Their butterburgers are amazing, and this sandwich was almost as good. Crispy, crunchy breading; moist, delicious fish; soft, chewy bun. At one point while eating this sandwich, I tried to open my mouth so wide that I actually hurt myself. Does that paint a picture of how quickly I was trying to cram this fish into my gullet?

The only deduction I'm taking due to a slight bitter aftertaste I got after two or three bites; I'm not sure if that's unique to walleye or if it was related to residual cooking oil, but it wasn't enough to stop me from immediately wanting to go buy another one. 4.5 out of 5

Note: The walleye sandwich is a promotional item and will only be available through Easter Sunday (April 4).

Looks: I don't know what kind of cutting and dividing they did for the box picture, but there's only one quesadilla in the box. Its filling is pretty close to what you see on the package, but the cheese kind of overwhelms the other stuff as it melts, much like a volcano taking out Los Angeles with its lava. (Side note: the cheese filling is like lava in another way, in that it will melt your mouth if you eat it too soon after heating.) 4 out of 5

Taste: They should really call this a corn quesadilla, because all you taste is corn and cheese. It was still ok, but I wouldn't have known there was chicken in it if I hadn't seen it on the box. So if you like corn and you like cheese, you'll love this meal. (If you don't like corn or cheese, why did you buy a quesadilla that clearly contains both? Weirdo.) 3 out of 5

Taste: You may recall that I have an "appreciation" for blueberry Pop-Tarts. These crisps are basically mini blueberry Pop-tarts, but even better, because it's socially acceptable to eat them at all hours of the day. No more yearning for Pop-Tarts at 3pm but withholding out of shame - I'll be enjoying some variety of sugar-frosted blueberry cracker snack 24/7. 5 out of 5

Well, it's a little more watery, but that's it. 4.5 out of 5

Taste: I really like - wait, let me start over. I love macaroni and cheese. It's possibly my favorite food. So when I saw that this macaroni and cheese looked quite appetizing after cooking, I got excited. I may have danced a little in my kitchen in anticipation. However, my glee was short-lived. Although it looks good, it has only slight cheese flavor, and the noodles themselves are somehow watery. (As in they squish out water when you bite into them.) Don't make the same mistake I did - don't get excited over this macaroni. 2.5 out of 5

Reader Sydney Hamilton has stepped up to ensure that you don't have to go another day without a FoodIRL post:

Looks: It doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look great. The chicken looks so dry in comparison to the pictured ones. The sauce is wayyy thicker than shown and the tomatoes in the picture are much more vibrant than the ones in the actual dish. It's not too far off though. 3.5 out of 5

Taste: This is the worst thing I have ever eaten. The "angel hair" pasta is basically thicker than linguine, and they are so overcooked and mushy. The tomatoes are so hard and crispy, I thought they were peppers until I realized they weren't. The chicken is dry and the sauce is way too thick and super bland. 1.5 out of 5

Personally, if something was the worst thing I had ever eaten, it would be lucky to get 0 out of 5, much less 1.5 out of 5.

Taste: Looks are deceiving in this case; it's actually very tasty. Most microwave spaghetti tends to become either over-dry and crunchy or overcooked and mushy. However, this pasta was neither too dry nor too soft, and the sauce tasted fresher than it should be allowed. 4 out of 5

Looks: They didn't add enough cheese for it to melt all the way to the edges, the tomato sauce more closely resembles a thin sheet of red paint, and the green peppers by far outnumber the chicken bits. (It's called "Chicken with Peppers", not "Peppers with Chicken.") 3.5 out of 5

Taste: The crust is chewy right out of the microwave, but it becomes crackery if you let it cool. The chicken, cheese, and sauce were all passable (on the high end for microwave pizza), but I definitely would have appreciated more of them. (Although then I suppose they'd have trouble calling it a "200 calorie portion."

One word of warning: don't take the "recommended cooking instructions" at face value. There are two 200-calorie portions in each box, and for the first one, I cooked it exactly how long the box recommended I cook it based on my microwave's wattage (2 minutes). For the second portion, I left it in the microwave for only 1:20. Can you guess which is which?

So if you cook it under close supervision and stop the microwave when the cheese melts, you'll be ok. 3.5 out of 5

(There's a second chicken patty underneath the sauce.) 4 out of 5

Taste: Much better than I expected - I expected soggy chicken and tasteless lasagna, but the chicken was firm and juicy, and the lasagna's ricotta filling was very apparent. The lasagna noodles weren't overcooked on the edges either. This is one of the few microwave lasagna meals I've tried that I would buy again. 4 out of 5

Thanks Emily!

Looks: "Definitely no corn (although the written description on the back of the packaging never lists corn in the description) and you don't really see those bits of rehydrated mushrooms. Also, there is not as much separation of the noodles and liquids as the picture depicts. These rice noodles suck up the broth, and the broth and the noodles are all the same color. In the picture the broth looks a little more of a rich brown." 3 out of 5

Taste: "Wonderful-ness. Not overly salty, but definitely had a mushroom taste to it and the seasonings were quite good as well. The noodles absorbed most of the liquid, but it made it easy to eat with chop sticks. If you are looking for a soup, these noodle bowls definitely are not it, but if you are looking for sticky noodles, these are the best way to go. Missed the corn though." 4.5 out of 5

Sauce is much too watery. Chicken-to-noodle ratio is far too low. 3 out of 5

Taste: Bland, but the chicken was nice and juicy. The vegetables were still quite crisp, which somewhat made up for the overcooked and mushy noodles. Not a keeper. 2 out of 5

Come on! 4.5 out of 5

Taste: When I saw "five-spice" on the box, I expected something spicy. (Five-spicy, to be exact.) But the sauce had no spice, only sweetness - it tasted and smelled like gingerbread cookies. Also, the beef was dry, as most microwave beef is, and the rest of the ingredients had no taste except for the overwhelming sauce. (Note: the ingredients list does not list "beef"; it lists "cooked beef and binder product." Take that for what you will.) 2.5 out of 5

Looks: Small differences: the eggs are not so cheesy in real life, and the apples lack any sort of sauce or extra moisture. If you squint, the two pictures look pretty much the same. 4 out of 5

Taste: Good, and good for you!

Just kidding. The eggs were dry and uncheesy; the potatoes were rubbery and tasteless. The sad little apple pieces were actually the best part of this meal, but that's not saying much at all. Nothing tasted terrible, and if I was in a hurry and really needed to get my cholesterol levels up, this would be an ok choice. Other than that exact situation, I can't see ever eating this again. 1.5 out of 5

The vegetables and overall portion size are close enough. 4 out of 5

Taste: I liked this one a lot - the rice was cooked just so, and the chicken was juicy. The vegetables were just the right amount of crunchy, but he sauce was maybe a little too sweet. (Although, in all my years, I've never tasted the "sour" of "sweet and sour" chicken. Is there something wrong with me?) 4.5 out of 5

These photos and descriptions come courtesy of reader Amy Hill.

Looks: "There's some room for variation here, since you have packets of sauce/rice/chicken/vegetables and have to put them together yourself, so if the chicken doesn't get as brown as on the package that might just be your fault for not following directions. Still, it looks almost exactly like the package (note that the IRL photo shows only one serving, while the package shows two)." 5 out of 5

Taste: "Sweet and spicy sauce; good amount of vegetables; not greasy at all. Better than a lot of Chinese takeout, even. My one complaint is that the servings are a bit small for the price." 4.5 out of 5

If you, like Amy, want to read about your own food on the Internet, send your photos to food@foodirl.com. On the other hand, if you like Amy, that is something I cannot help you with.
