Food Ad Tricks

I know it’s been a while since the last update, and I’m sorry. Please take me back, I’ll be better, I promise!

I’ve been traveling, and what with the holidays and all, it’s been crazy around here. I need one more day to get some posts ready, so until then, please accept this video about food photography tricks that several readers have sent me.

I like how she did the fries! What was your most favorite part?

I like how she refers to the burger pattie as if it were a supple young teenage boy.

I remember in middle school health class watching a video just like this, about all I remember of it.

Gluing the seeds to the bun one by one… that must get old fast.

Interesting video. I have an interest in this subject as I used to work for a cookbook publisher that did all its own photography in-house. We were really strict on having the food exactly resemble what the home cook would get from following the recipe, so the food stylists didn’t resort to these kind of tricks except in very rare cases (e.g. fake ice cream when it would have to sit under the hot lights for awhile – I’m told it’s a kind of dough.) Most of the photographed food was totally edible, as I can attest – I never had to pack a lunch on photography days!
